Hypertension (high blood pressure) contributes to many chronic diseases and disproportionately affects people in low- and middle-income countries. Exercise is an important treatment for hypertension. The Step It Up: Wearables for Health project in Ghana is studying whether patients with hypertension accept and use physical activity wristband sensors to monitor and produce data on their condition. FHI 360 is conducting the project in the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra.
The goals of the project are to:
- Generate baseline levels of physical activity in an urban Ghanaian population
- Determine the association between physical activity and blood pressure among hypertensive patients
