To help clinicians improve asthma care and control, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute tasked FHI 360 with creating and implementing the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program’s National Asthma Control Initiative (NACI). FHI 360 helps coordinate U.S. national efforts to enhance quality of life for patients with asthma and decrease asthma-related morbidity and mortality.
The project puts research into practice by promoting awareness and use of federal asthma guidelines by clinicians and other asthma stakeholders. FHI 360 achieves this goal by creating, launching and managing the initiative and by providing technical assistance to its demonstration projects, strategic partners, and clinical champions, which showed improved guidelines-based asthma knowledge and self-efficacy, clinical care processes, and systems integration. FHI 360 created the program, a program brand and award-winning materials for clinicians and consumers. In addition, the program brought the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program and partner organizations together to reach diverse audiences through webinars, a new website, e-newsletters, e-alerts, articles and presentations that spread vital messages about asthma in the United States. Three FHI 360-produced NACI products received NIH Plain Language awards in 2011.
