Duration
2008 - 2013

The Ethiopia Sustainable Tourism Alliance (ESTA) strives to enhance biodiversity conservation and economic development through sustainable ecotourism products, services and other opportunities in the defined destination regions of the Rift Valley, the Bale Mountains and Awash National Park. A secondary focus is on the mainstreaming of HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness along the tourism value chain in these destinations. While addressing national poverty alleviation concerns outlined in the Plan for Accelerated and Sustained Development to End Poverty, the program also uses an approach to conservation that fully addresses the need to engage neighboring communities. In doing so, ESTA addresses objectives of the U.S. Agency for International Development for both improved natural resource management and conflict mitigation.
