A warm welcome to Janet Cowell, the newest member of FHI 360's Board of Directors
DURHAM, NC – FHI 360 announced today that Janet Cowell, a distinguished leader in both the public and private arenas, has joined its Board of Directors. Ms. Cowell has 25 years of experience in a wide range of sectors, including finance, health care, education and technology. She was the first woman to be elected as Treasurer of the State of North Carolina, a post she held from 2009 to 2016. She now serves as a corporate director for the publicly traded James River Insurance Company and ChannelAdvisor.

As Treasurer of the State of North Carolina, Ms. Cowell’s many achievements included overseeing the state’s pension fund of more than US$90 billion in investments for more than 900,000 teachers, firefighters and other public employees. She also served as a North Carolina state senator and an at-large member of the Raleigh City Council.
Ms. Cowell is experienced in the commercial business world both in the United States and internationally. Among other positions, she has worked as a securities analyst in Southeast Asia and as a business consultant focused on Fortune 500 companies.
