Male engagement groups help create a new cycle of positive domestic practices
The maternal mortality rate in Mozambique in 2020 was 83% higher than the global maternal mortality rate. To help change that, FHI 360 is leading a consortium to implement the Alcançar: Achieving Quality Health Services for Women and Children project, which is funded by USAID.
In the photo story below, Mozambicans Paulino Assane and his wife of 24 years, Consida Manuel, share how his participation in a male engagement group has brought positive change to their home. The male engagement groups, run by Alcançar partners, help men support their wives in everything from prenatal health care to household chores to child care — resulting in healthier lives for women, newborns and children.
