Durham, N.C., USA — FHI 360 is pleased to announce that Carlos Torres has been elected chair of its board of directors and that incoming members Dana Hovig and Susan Yashar have joined the board.
“Susan brings to FHI 360 deep experience in good governance, especially in international settings, while Dana is a proven leader in health systems strengthening, gender and reproductive health and rights,” says Tessie San Martin, chief executive officer of FHI 360. “Their experience and expertise will enhance FHI 360’s ability to achieve sustainable impact against the most pressing global challenges we face today.
Most recently, Hovig served as director of the Gender Equity and Governance program at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, where he oversaw grantmaking of about US$130 million annually to expand women’s reproductive and economic choices, amplify citizen participation to improve governance and accountability, and improve policymaking through evidence. Previously he served as CEO of Marie Stopes International and held leadership positions at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Population Services International.
Yashar is deputy CEO and general counsel of Deloitte Global, overseeing, among other things, major risk, legal, brand, regulatory and governance matters affecting Deloitte worldwide. She has also served as a global chief risk officer and has been a member of the executive team since 2014. Prior to joining Deloitte, Yashar worked at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board as associate general counsel for enforcement and international; at the Securities and Exchange Commission, where she held a variety of positions, including assistant director of the Office of International Affairs; and as a litigator in private practice.
