FHI 360 has elected Kamissa Camara, a respected expert on foreign policy, sociopolitical issues and security in sub-Saharan Africa, to the FHI 360 Board of Directors. Ms. Camara served as the Chief of Staff to the President of Mali and was the country’s youngest Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. She also served as Minister of Digital Economy and Planning.
“FHI 360 is thrilled to welcome such a dynamic leader to our board,” says Patrick Fine, Chief Executive Officer of FHI 360. “Ms. Camara brings extensive experience from her work building government and civil society coalitions in sub-Saharan Africa. We look forward to learning from her insights on regional security, human rights, democracy, corruption and civil-military relations.”
Prior to working with the Malian government, Ms. Camara was an Africa Instructor at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, and she held leadership positions with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and PartnersGlobal. At NED, Ms. Camara co-founded and co-chaired the Sahel Strategy Forum, a platform to inform public opinion on the complexities of governance in the Sahel region. She also spearheaded a multimillion-dollar program supporting civil society initiatives in West and Central Africa.
Ms. Camara is a frequent commentator for such international news outlets as CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Voice of America, The Washington Post and Le Monde Afrique. She holds an MA in international economics and globalization from the Université Grenoble Alpes and a BA in international relations from the Université de Paris.
