DURHAM, N.C. – FHI 360 has been awarded a new contract valued at more than US$140 million by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the Let’s Stop HIV Together (Together) campaign, an integrated media campaign designed to reach communities disproportionately affected by HIV and engage partners and health care providers. FHI 360 is leading the campaign and partnered with RTI International, which has supported CDC’s HIV efforts for more than 15 years.
Together aims to reduce stigma and increase HIV testing, prevention and treatment as part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. initiative and the National HIV/AIDS Strategy. This award is the first time the CDC has integrated the consumer, provider and partner outreach into one contract.
“The federal government has the ambitious goal of ending the HIV epidemic in the U.S. by 2030, and this integrated campaign is a key part of that initiative,” says Todd Phillips, director of social marketing and communication at FHI 360. “We are focused on reaching key audiences with compelling and authentic messaging, creating conversations through personal stories, and promoting awareness and use of HIV services.”
By leveraging a combination of paid media, social media, community engagement, and support for partners, Together seeks to proactively connect individuals with the information and resources they need to stay healthy and thrive.
While national prevention and treatment efforts are proving successful, substantial disparities exist, particularly in the U.S. South, among Black and Latino men and women, transgender people, and men who have sex with men.
According to the CDC, in 2022, there were 31,800 estimated new HIV infections in the U.S., and it is estimated that 1.2 million people in the U.S. were living with diagnosed and undiagnosed HIV at the end of 2022.
“FHI 360 has long been at the forefront of efforts to stop HIV and AIDS, and we are excited to partner with RTI to continue our work with the CDC in support of ending the HIV epidemic in the U.S.,” adds Phillips.
