Where the jobs are: Five key sectors for workforce development

Globally, many young people are struggling to find gainful employment. Skills training is critical to prepare them for the workforce, particularly in five key sectors. These include tourism and hospitality; the care ecomony, which includes health care, childcare and eldercare; creative industries such as fashion, design, handicraft, and visual and musical arts; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); and digital information, communication and technology (ICT). Nicole Goldin, FHI 360’s Director and Lead Economist for Economic Participation, shares why these sectors are so important and how they provide not only job opportunities, but also expansion for employers and entrepreneurs as well.
