Literacy program shows effectiveness through one child's experience
Nigeria’s Reading and Numeracy Activity (RANA) is changing lives for young students who come to the classroom without reading skills. Interventions that teach letter-sound recognition and word reading are proving effective, as shown by 11-year-old Hambali Yahaya’s experience. He is a primary three RANA pupil who won a local reading competition and came in second place in a state contest. He now dreams of a future as a medical doctor.
