Most of the 4 billion people who cannot connect to the internet live in rural areas of developing countries in Africa and South Asia where there is little or no infrastructure to provide connectivity. This segment of the population is unable to use the internet to improve their lives and economic situations. FHI 360’s mSTAR project is working with technologists, industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and policymakers from around the world to explore what it would take to bring the bottom billion online.
