    Sexual networks and HIV risk among black men who have sex with men in six U.S. cities

    Analysis of self-reported data from 1,349 black men who have sex with men in the United States, a group that is disproportionately affected by HIV, found that the men's sexual networks were relatively small and often overlapped with their social networks. Network interventions that engage the social networks of black men who have sex with men, such as peer influence, should be developed to affect social norms around HIV testing and HIV status disclosure.

    On the road again: Concurrency and condom use among Uganda truck drivers

    Analyses of data collected from Ugandan truck drivers showed that overlapping sexual relationships with two or more long-term partners, with whom condoms were not being used, was common. These findings are of particular concern because this population is sometimes considered a key bridging population in the HIV epidemic. Innovative intervention programs that address the realities of truck drivers' lifestyles are needed for these men and their partners.

    Intimacy versus isolation: A qualitative study of sexual practices among sexually active HIV-infected patients in HIV care in Brazil, Thailand and Zambia

    Understanding the psychosocial context of condomless sex among people living with HIV or AIDS could shed light on effective intervention strategies. The study considers the perceived impact of HIV on the sexual practices and relationships of in-care HIV-infected men who have sex with men, heterosexual men and women in Brazil, Thailand and Zambia who engaged in high-risk sexual practices.

    Trial participation disclosure and gel use behavior in the CAPRISA 004 tenofovir gel trial

    This study demonstrates that the dynamics of communication between partners about participation in a trial and use of a study product vary and can influence use behavior. Therefore, no single product adherence strategy can be applied to all HIV prevention trials or product introduction campaigns. Guidance is needed for developing adherence strategies that involve male partners of women who want to communicate their study participation and that support women who would like to use a study product without their partner's knowledge.

    Aligning product development and user perspectives: Social-behavioural dimensions of multipurpose prevention technologies

    User perspectives on new multipurpose prevention products may differ substantially from the perspectives of providers, policymakers and product developers, which can limit uptake and correct, sustained use, and thus effectiveness. This paper provides a framework for considering both product-specific characteristics and behavior early in the product development process.
