    Large-scale social and behavior change communication interventions have sustained impacts on infant and young child feeding knowledge and practices: Results of a 2-year follow-up study in Bangladesh

    This article assesses the changes in exposure and infant and young child feeding knowledge and practices after a social behavior change program ended. The findings indicate that improvements in maternal knowledge and practices related to infant and young child feeding can be sustained for at least two years. The authors also found that exposure to interpersonal counseling decreased slightly, community mobilization decreased substantially and recall of mass media messaging remained unchanged after the end of the project.

    Stagnating trends in complementary feeding practices in Bangladesh: An analysis of national surveys from 2004-2014

    Despite positive trends in economic development, the quality of infant and young child feeding in Bangladesh has not improved, and some indicators show negative trends, including declining consumption of legumes, fruits and vegetables. The study identifies the most vulnerable groups and opportunities for targeting to improve infant and young child diets.

    Factors influencing maternal nutrition practices in a large-scale maternal, newborn and child health program in Bangladesh

    This paper examines the maternal, household and health service factors that influence maternal nutrition practices in a large-scale maternal, newborn and child health program in Bangladesh. The authors show that improving knowledge, self-efficacy and perceptions of social norms among pregnant women, increased husband support, early registration in prenatal care and provision of free supplements will largely improve maternal nutrition practices.

    The nutrition and health risks faced by pregnant adolescents: Insights from a cross-sectional study in Bangladesh

    Adolescent pregnancies pose substantial health risks for the mother and child. This study of adolescent mothers in Bangladesh found that they experienced a more difficult birth and a longer recovery, and the infants and mothers were significantly more stunted than older mothers and their infants. The authors suggest that approaches to delaying childbirth merit greater attention in maternal health and nutrition strategies where adolescent pregnancies are common.

    Large-scale behavior-change initiative for infant and young child feeding advanced language and motor development in a cluster-randomized program evaluation in Bangladesh

    The authors found that an infant and young child feeding intervention advanced language and gross motor development, and the increase in development milestones was partially explained by improved complementary feeding. This paper suggests that integrated nutrition programs should measure outcomes such as child development milestones, not just physical size, when evaluating program impact.
