    This paper outlines the methodology of developing the PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) Communications Accelerator, a digital tool that provides communication strategies, market research and recommendations for generating demand for PrEP across sub-Saharan Africa. The authors review the custom-built plans generated by the tool, including suggested media channels and communication tactics based on available evidence about the population and setting.

    Marketing self-management education: Lessons on messaging and framing

    Self-management education (SME) is an evidence-based, interactive intervention that helps individuals with chronic diseases maintain or improve their quality of life by building skills, such as goal setting and decision making. But, few people have heard of or understand the term, and participation in such programs remains low. This qualitative research shows it is feasible to market SME programs by using motivating messages in clear but relatable language and making it easy for potential participants to find a program.

    Outcomes of compulsory detention compared to community-based voluntary methadone maintenance treatment in Vietnam

    This research finds conclusive evidence that methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) is more costeffective than center-based compulsory treatment (CCT) in reducing heroin use, blood-borne virus risk behaviors, drug-related illegal behaviors and monthly drug spending. The authors recommend that policymakers consider allocation of resources for MMT treatment a higher priority and scale down CCT models.

    Overweight and obesity in local media: An analysis of media coverage in CDC-funded communities

    Earned media can be part of addressing overweight and obesity by emphasizing prevention and both environmental and individual causes and solutions. This paper examines almost 3,000 news stories related to overweight and obesity in newspaper and television channels in multiple locations across the United States. The authors suggest future research could explore if public perception or news coverage on overweight and obesity changes.

    Using behavior change approaches to improve complementary feeding practices

    Improving complementary feeding of children 6 to 24 months of age requires an understanding of what drives feeding behaviors in specific cultural and economic contexts and which systematic approaches best facilitate beneficial and feasible changes. This paper analyzes social and behavior change approaches and use of program delivery platforms at scale that resulted in documented improvements in Bangladesh, Malawi, Peru and Zambia. The authors conclude that complementary feeding practices, particularly dietary diversity, can be improved rapidly in a variety of settings through available program platforms if interventions focus on specific constraints and strategies encourage caregivers to prepare and feed appropriate foods.
