FHI 360 experts in behavior change and the social sciences have partnered with city governments, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations and civic organizations to develop water reuse and conservation programs as well as to promote recycling and litter reduction initiatives. Our staff have worked with communities in water-stressed regions to promote xeriscaping of public spaces and efficient use of water resources at both the commercial enterprise and household levels.
Through a range of stakeholder engagement activities, FHI 360 staff facilitated solid waste management programs that support urban beautification initiatives as well as healthier communities for the built environment. For example, FHI 360 worked with women-led community-based organizations to build, sell and install trash bins for garbage collection. Not only did this positively impact the environment, it also provided a means of income generation for the community. Our experts have also designed environmental education programs targeting grade school children to help them understand the importance of solid and liquid waste management.
