As the international development community pivots toward implementing an ambitious, cross-cutting global agenda, we need evidence to understand the circumstances in which integrated development solutions produce the best results. FHI 360 focuses on measuring the impact of multisector programs to identify those that are the most powerful and effective. We use this knowledge to generate demand and support for evidence-based integrated approaches and to inform the design and delivery of integrated efforts.
FHI 360 is committed to building and utilizing the evidence on integrated development solutions by:
- Examining the methodologies best suited for assessing complex, multisector efforts
- Synthesizing the available scientific evidence on their impact
- Conducting rigorous research studies on different integrated models
- Cataloging programmatic knowledge emerging from real-world projects
- Promoting the research for applications in funding, policy and program decisions
- Identifying areas for further research and evaluation
FHI 360 works with many partners to develop a collaborative global research agenda that will identify the most pressing knowledge gaps in integration. Our findings will be used to guide funders, researchers, practitioners and others in prioritizing their investments.
FHI 360 also directly conducts research on integrated approaches through projects such as Accelerating Strategies for Practical Innovation and Research in Economic Strengthening (ASPIRES), which supports evidence-based, gender-sensitive programming to improve the economic security and health outcomes of families and children living with, affected by or at high risk of acquiring HIV. One effort within the ASPIRES project is the implementation of a full-factorial, randomized controlled trial with qualitative and quantitative components. This research will evaluate the effectiveness of integrated economic security and HIV prevention education programming on health and economic outcomes for at-risk youth.
