HIV compromises the nutritional status of infected individuals. In turn, undernutrition worsens the effects of the disease by weakening the immune system. Nutritional care and support for people with HIV/AIDS helps break this vicious cycle, improving their overall quality of life. Such support enables people living with HIV to manage symptoms, reduce susceptibility to opportunistic infections, improve nutritional status and respond to medical treatment. FHI 360 partners with governments, donors, nongovernmental organizations and private companies to integrate nutrition interventions into HIV/AIDS care and support services. FHI 360 also works to integrate nutrition into the treatment of other infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and malaria.
