Approximately one in seven people worldwide suffers from hunger, and more than 2.6 million children die from undernutrition every year. FHI 360 has long been at the forefront of responding to needs for emergency nutrition. We developed a “how to” manual and operational guidelines on infant and young child feeding in emergencies. We pioneered community-based programs to manage undernutrition with government partners in sub-Saharan Africa. Our technical experts have collaborated with international funders, governments, regional groups and nongovernmental organizations to meet nutrition needs.
Under the Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance III (FANTA-3) Project, FHI 360 experts provide technical support in the areas of maternal and child health and nutrition in both development and emergency contexts. The project addresses the interrelationship between nutrition and infectious disease and between agriculture and nutrition. We enhance food security, promote livelihood strengthening and provide emergency assistance in nutrition crises. The project supports the design and implementation of country-level programs. It builds on field experience to improve and expand the evidence base, methods and global standards for nutrition and food security programming.
FHI 360 also manages the Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistance (LIFT) project. LIFT helps communities integrate economic strengthening and food security into existing HIV care programs to benefit households affected by HIV or AIDS. The project has developed and implemented customized guidelines, trainings and other tools to help at-risk households. Project experts partner with countries, international nutrition organizations and funders to design strategies, policies, programs and systems that address emergencies and create sustainable nutritional change.
