For more than 50 years, FHI 360’s research and programs have focused on the interrelated factors that enable women and their families to make informed health decisions. Some programs increase the availability of safe and affordable contraceptive methods. Others provide confidential and culturally sensitive counseling on family planning and prevention of sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
We build strong relationships with governments, private sector actors, and civil society organizations to drive innovative solutions that address barriers to services and increase the availability of high-quality contraceptive methods. We conduct research, including clinical, implementation and behavioral research, and work with local partners to support people to lead full and healthy lives.
Evidence-based and locally led solutions
A commitment to evidence-based and locally led solutions underpins our work to ensure people have access to the health services they need.

Investigating and developing contraceptives
We research existing contraceptive methods and develop new contraceptive options, and we facilitate market development and product introduction to increase contraceptive choice.

Contraception at home
We emphasize self-care approaches, including digital options, to make it easier to take a pill or self-inject contraception at home, lessening the burden on health systems.

Investigating contraceptive-induced menstrual changes
Our thought leadership on contraceptive-induced menstrual changes emphasizes the potential for contraceptives to prevent or manage serious health conditions like iron deficiency and anemia.

Integrating family planning with other sectors
We advance the integration of family planning with immunization services; maternal, infant and young child feeding nutrition services; HIV services; and menstrual health research.
Featured projects
Research
Our research helps strengthen programs. We seek to make high-quality information available and accessible to those working in reproductive health services in low- and middle-income countries.
Technical assistance and service delivery
We partner with governments and local organizations to implement evidence-based family planning policies and practices that reflect local priorities and effectively meet people’s needs.
