During the previous two decades, FHI 360 has been a global leader in promoting the well-being and quality of life of children and youth infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. During this time, we have reached a significant number of vulnerable children and youth in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean through programs that help them thrive and develop to their full potential.
Grounded in the social-ecological model, our programs are child and youth-focused, family-centered and community-based. We work in partnership with children and youth, families, communities, civil-society organizations and governments to create a supportive and enabling environment that contributes to the long-term and sustainable well-being of children and youth. Our approaches include:
- Empowering children and youth to contribute to their own well-being by developing age-appropriate self-care and protection knowledge and skills
- Enhancing the capacity of families to properly care for, protect and meet the needs of their children and youth by strengthening their child care and protection skills, their parenting and livelihoods skills, and their health seeking behaviors
- Strengthening the capacity of communities and leveraging their resources to provide a more effective and sustainable response to the needs of vulnerable children and their families
- Strengthening the organizational, technical and financial management capacities of local civil-society organizations so they can provide comprehensive and high-quality care and support services to children and families
- Supporting governments in enhancing policy frameworks and systems in support of vulnerable children and families affected by HIV/AIDS.
