
Kajol Shows the Way to Women in the Sex Trade
SEPTEMBER 2009 — Kajol's initiation into sex work was tragically similar to that of many young women who come to Dhaka looking for work. Then, she met a peer educator from FHI partner Bangladesh Women's Health Coalition (BWHC) who helped her access HIV prevention messages, support, and medical care. The experience inspired her to begin working as a peer educator to help other women in her situation.

Finding Community, Common Cause, and a Happy Life at Shusta Jibon
SEPTEMBER 2009— Shustha Jibon is a community-based organization managed by and supporting hijras, the term used in South Asia for people who are considered the "third gender." With funding from USAID, FHI supports two Shusta Jibon health centers where hijras drop in or are referred by outreach workers and peer educators to receive HIV counseling and testing, STI diagnosis and treatment, condoms and behavior change messages. Modhumita – High-Quality Health Services for Most-at-risk Populations
The Modhumita Program is a follow-on to the Bangladesh AIDS Program that was successfully completed in October 2009. The program's overarching objective is to support an effective HIV prevention strategy through improved prevention, care, and treatment services for most-at-risk populations, and a strengthened national response.

Summary Report of Key Findings and Program Recommendations from FHI MSM Program Evaluations
OCTOBER 2007 — This study, prepared by FHI's Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO), reveals an overall positive effect of FHI programming on knowledge, sexual risk behavior, and access to commodities and services through a variety of interventions such as behavior change, advocacy, networking, community mobilization, and capacity building. However, quality and coverage were inconsistent from one site to another and there is a need to promote a minimum package of priority interventions along with improved organizational capacity and program monitoring.

Featured Partner: USAID
FHI and its partners implement the USAID-funded Bangladesh AIDS Program. The program is designed to reach the most vulnerable populations in Bangladesh with gender-sensitive and sustainable prevention and care programming. FHI conducts outreach activities, establishes integrated health centers, and brands them with the Modhumita (sweet friend) name. BAP supports the prevention of HIV transmission through a communications campaign involving the weekly sermons of religious leaders as well as religious television programming. BAP also supports surveillance and research. Along with its partner JSI Bangladesh, FHI builds the capacity of local implementing agencies. In addition to FHI, BAP's main partners include Masjid Council for Community Advancement and Social Marketing Company.
