AWARE Holds Regional Workshop on a Model Law on STI/HIV/AIDS

SEPTEMBER 2004 — On Sept. 8-11,  more than 40 participants from 18 countries met in N'djamena, Chad, for a regional workshop on the adoption and promotion of a model law on STI/HIV/AIDS for West and Central Africa.

The workshop was organized by Family Health International's AWARE HIV/AIDS project in collaboration with the Forum of African and Arab Parliamentarians for Population and Development (FAAPPD), WARP/USAID, WAHO, CERPOD, the ECOWAS Parliament and the Network of Chad Parliamentarians for Population and Development.

Participants included representatives from regional networks of persons living with HIV, women and youth, the executive secretary of ECOWAS, the Sahelien network of parliamentarians, national networks of parliamentarians for Population and Development, national HIV/AIDS control programs in the region, and U.N. agencies.
