2010 Bio-BSS Available

JANUARY 2011 – FHI Egypt recently disseminated the results of the 2010 Biological Behavioral Surveillance Survey (Bio-BSS) among most-at-risk populations (MARPs). FHI collaborated with the Egyptian Ministry of Health on the study, which was funded by the Global Fund.

FHI Egypt Spreads the Word about Harm Reduction

BefriendersJUNE 2009 — FHI Egypt recently developed three Arabic language posters on harm reduction in partnership with the local Egyptian NGO Befrienders. Funded by the Ford Foundation, the posters address the needs of injecting drug users, discuss safer sex, and detail the services provided by the Befrienders comprehensive care center (CCC) where they hang.

FHI 360 partners with the Government of Egypt and local nongovernmental organizations to provide technical expertise and implement ongoing services for HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and youth-friendly reproductive health. FHI 360

  • works to prevent HIV among most-at-risk populations
  • leads efforts to ensure that HIV counseling and testing are confidential, voluntary,and accessible
  • collaborates with the Egyptian National AIDS Program to strengthen HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, care, and treatment
  • redresses the scarcity of adolescent reproductive health services

The twin epidemics of injecting drug use and HIV infection linked to the sharing of injection equipment have a major impact on the health and social and economic wellbeing of many countries in the Middle East and North Africa Region. HIV/AIDS Clinical Care Reference Guide for Physicians Published

JANUARY 2007 — FHI Egypt collaborated with Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population to publish "National HIV/AIDS Clinical Care: A Reference Guide for Physicians." The guide was developed to train doctors working in Egypt in the diagnosis and management of HIV/AIDS, related illnesses and opportunistic infections.
