New members bring extensive global development and social responsibility expertise to the board of directors
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, January 12, 2012—FHI 360 announced today that Holly Wise and Helga Ying have joined its board of directors.
Holly Wise, M.A., M.PH. is a seasoned development executive with more than 32 years' experience in international development and corporate social responsibility. As president of the consultancy practice, Wise Solutions LLC, she enhances international development, corporate social responsibility, public-private alliance and business development expertise for nonprofit organizations, foundations and corporations. Ms. Wise also serves as Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and teaches enterprise development at Georgetown University's Graduate School of Foreign Service. Ms. Wise spent 26 years in the foreign service with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), achieving the diplomatic rank of Minister Counselor and is the founder and first Secretariat Director of the Global Development Alliance. During this time, she leveraged close to $4 billion in outside resources for people in need through the creation and execution of a new business model for foreign assistance. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and served as USAID Chair at the National Defense University, where she taught political science, environmental courses and published research on China. Ms. Wise is an author, distinguished lecturer and recipient of multiple awards, including the Presidential Rank Meritorious Honor Award as well as Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards and the Distinguished Career Service Award from USAID.
Helga Ying, an expert in U.S. and international government relations, has served for 13 years in roles of increasing responsibility at Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.), culminating in her current role as senior director, worldwide government affairs and public policy. She leads a global team in strategic planning and delivery of government and public policy initiatives. Ms. Ying expertly builds strategic relationships with key stakeholders focusing on the areas of international trade, intellectual property rights, labor and worker rights, environmental sustainability, equality and HIV/AIDS. She also manages LS&Co.'s participation in multi-stakeholder initiatives, including the United Nations Global Compact and the Clinton Global Initiative. In a previous role, Ms. Ying developed and conducted multiple compliance training programs. Before her career with LS&Co., she served as Director, Member Services for Business for Social Responsibility, where she advised member companies on a range of social responsibility issues including global and strategic philanthropy, human rights, volunteerism and workplace diversity. Ms. Ying developed expertise in U.S. government policies and procedures while serving as a member of Senator Edward M. Kennedy's staff as a legislative assistant both in the Foreign Policy Office and on the Labor and Human Resources Committee. Ms. Ying holds an M.A. in International Relations and International Economics from The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She received the first Bob Haas Leadership Award for Corporate Citizenship in 2009 as a member of "Care Tag for Our Planet," an initiative designed to divert billions of pounds of unwanted clothing from landfills by giving consumers advice on what to do with jeans when they are no longer needed.
