STD management:

In addition to providing primary prevention services, some
(FP/MCH) programs may be able to offer STD management services.
STD management refers to the diagnosis and treatment of STDs,
as well as what are called the “four C’s”: counseling
and education, condom promotion, compliance with treatment,
and contacting partners for possible treatment. STD management
services can prevent the further spread of STDs.
STD management services require major commitment and resources.
If FP/MCH programs cannot afford to offer such services, they
can at least refer clients to alternative sources of care.
The main purpose of this section is to introduce syndromic
management of STDs to FP/MCH providers. Please be aware that
the discussion that follows is an overview of syndromic management.
It is not designed to train providers to use this approach.
Providers need formal training for this purpose.
